The idea

Three South Korean houses joined the library on 1 November, and the fastest way to tell them apart is not the notes but the price list. dosigoh sells a 30 mL tester for $25 and a full bottle for $90. 빌라에르바티움, which trades as Villa Erbatium, prices in won, mostly at two steps: 188000 KRW and 278000 KRW. Rebel against the standards., the library name for the Seoul house BORNTOSTANDOUT, runs $34 to $320. Set the catalogues side by side and a second pattern appears: the cheapest of the three publishes the most detail about what is in the bottle, and the dearest publishes the least.

dosigoh: $25 to find out

dosigoh is a Seoul scent studio, formerly named CONCRETED. Its own account of the name joins dosi (도시), Korean for city, with goh (곻), which it calls "an archaic word for nose", and sets out the method as "revisiting Korean references and translating them into something contemporary through fragrance".

All nine entries in the library sit in the same $25–$90 band, and none of them states a concentration. The $25 buys a 30 mL tester; UMBER also offers ten 2 mL vials for $40. What dosigoh does give is a note list, and the lists are unusually short. UMBER has two: Instant Coffee and Chestnut. Not coffee absolute, not roasted bean. Instant.

CINNAMON PUNCH lists six: cinnamon, ginger, fig, orange, burnt wood, incense. OMIJA lists one, omija, the Korean name for the fruit of Schisandra chinensis, commonly called the five-flavour berry because it is held to carry all five basic tastes, and in Korea steeped into the cordial omija-cha. A single-note listing for a berry whose whole reputation is multiplicity is either a joke or a thesis. The house does not say which, and it gives note positions for none of the three.

Villa Erbatium: won prices, two sizes, a rice wine

Villa Erbatium was founded by Ha Min-seo and works as an in-house brand in Seoul, formulating, designing and hand-crafting its own perfumes, oil perfumes and diffusers, with an atelier in Samcheong-dong and a main collection built on natural aromatic extracts. The house explains its name as three words joined: villa, Italian for a cultural space, erba, herb, and tium, a pure Korean word for sprouting. The same page lists commissions for spaces including the Galleria luxury hall, Ananti resorts and Seoul Club.

Thirty-one fragrances are in the library, and the pricing is the most rigid of the three houses: a 188000 KRW size and a 278000 KRW size, with the range topping out at 318000 KRW. At the mid-market rate quoted on 2 November 2026, that is roughly $140 and $207, so Villa Erbatium's entry size costs more than a full bottle from dosigoh.

  • SAN LORENZO, 188000–278000 KRW, lists bergamot, apple, peach and rose with birch, oakmoss, musk and amber: a chypre skeleton with fruit laid over it.
  • 쟈니의 서재 Gianni's Library is one of the few entries given a concentration, eau de parfum, and lists paper, leather, incense, burnt wood, amber, sandalwood and vetiver. Burnt wood turns up in dosigoh's CINNAMON PUNCH too, in a cheaper bottle and much stranger company.
  • RICE MAKGEOLLI has a single price, 188000 KRW, and lists almond, steamed rice, yogurt, rice powder, musk and amber. Makgeolli is a milky, off-white, lightly sparkling Korean rice wine of 6 to 9 percent alcohol, made from rice and the starter nuruk and high in lactic acid bacteria. A dairy-tart note in a rice gourmand reads less eccentric once that is on the table.

BORNTOSTANDOUT: format stated, notes withheld

BORNTOSTANDOUT was founded in Seoul by Jun Lim, a former investment banker, and launched in April 2022 with white bottles and red accents and names such as Dirty Rice and Fig Porn. The founder's letter opens to "fellow misfits and fragrance lovers". Forty fragrances are in the library, priced $34–$320, and the ladder is built on concentration as much as on size: CANDY DUST and CUVÉE SKIN are parfum at $34–$220, COLA ADDICT is eau de parfum at $41–$320, DGAF sits at a flat $230, and the extraits are $120 for 15 mL or $320 for 50 mL, which is $8.00 and $6.40 per millilitre.

The three featured here publish no note list at all. SAINT PETAL and MELÓN MALO are extraits at $120 and $320; CORN PORN is an eau de parfum, 50 mL at $230, currently out of stock. A buyer gets a name, a concentration, a size and a price. Everything else is the title.

What $90 of cinnamon buys

CINNAMON PUNCH is a useful way into the library's cinnamon page, which carries 190 fragrances and shows the note's habitual companions: clove, vanilla, patchouli, amber, sandalwood, cedar, nutmeg, musk. dosigoh keeps almost none of that company, pairing cinnamon with fig and orange instead.

The conventional version costs more. Ambre Noir from Jinkoh Store is an extrait at $350 with cinnamon in a top of clove, cardamom, heliotrope and bergamot over a very long base. Hoary Date from Toskovat' is $315 and currently out of stock. The ALVIVA from Teone Reinthal Natural Perfume runs 110–900 AUD and sets cinnamon among clove, nutmeg, allspice and cardamom. Against those, a $25 tester is a cheap way to learn what the note does, and the rest of cinnamon under $100 is worth a scroll.
