Perfumer and Founder Liz ZornIn the early 1990's Liz (a fine artist) became interested in Olfactory art installations and began creating them in her downtown Cincinnati art space. This led to a small collection of numbered edition perfumes that evolved into what is now the Soivohle line. The desire has always been to craft challenging scents, quirky combinations of smells that resonate in unique and interesting ways.
Artist Statement: My approach to scent crafting starts with an idea and building something around it. I came to perfumery by way of my art career, so the approach for me is less about fitting in with the perfume establishment and more about being the obstinate, free spirited creator that I have always been. I have to want to do it.
For the nuts and bolts of it, I love old things and modern things. The bridge that unites the two. I (to my own detriment) gravitate to the rare and hard to find things. An odd off putting attar, a one off flower absolute, an exceptional rose oil from the perfect harvest. Memories that pierce the heart and mind, like the smell of my grandmothers musty basement, the creek bed that I walked along as a child, and now walking the tree line on my own property, pines that we planted, now tall and majestic.
All these things, the life and the earth, are my holy place. When I am working, that energy gets spread around. The community of creation.
