Kismet Olfactive is an independent fragrance studio based in New York City, founded by perfumer Shabnam Tavakol. Tavakol was born and raised in California to Iranian-immigrant parents and later studied fragrance creation at the Grasse Institute of Perfumery in the south of France, before working professionally in Paris and New York.
The name Kismet comes from the Persian word "qismat," meaning fate or "what is meant to be." Tavakol founded the studio to work outside the conventions of the mainstream perfume industry, formulating in small batches with an emphasis on integrating natural raw materials.
Kismet Olfactive's eau de parfum sprays are made by hand in small batches with a high concentration of natural raw materials and are left unfiltered, so some natural sediment can occur in the liquid.
