Hendley Perfumes

Hendley Perfumes was founded in 2014 by Hans Hendley, who works out of a studio in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. He is self-taught, having spent years studying raw materials before formulating his own fragrances, and he personally formulates, blends, bottles, labels and ships every batch himself rather than working with an outside lab.

Before perfumery, Hendley studied graphic design and photography and worked in commercial photography, including collaborations with niche brands such as Aesop in New York. His early experiments with scent date back to childhood in rural East Texas, where he macerated citrus, cloves, cinnamon and pine needles in rubbing alcohol.

The house's fragrances are described on its site as "evocative artisan perfumes of an uncompromising quality, made by hand," produced in small batches in New York.
