All Hallows' Eve is the last warm night of the year — candy sugar, dry leaves underfoot, and the distinct sense that the season is about to stop being charming.

Simple, nostalgic, and slightly uneasy. It smells like the walk home after the costumes have gone by.

The Story

The wind blows and dead leaves skitter across the cold ground. While the smell of candy and the laughter of children provide temporary comfort, there is always something foreboding about this night. As the parade of costumes advances out of sight, one tries to ignore the sensation of being surrounded by a growing and intense stillness. Somewhere in the darkness, winter spreads its wings.

Pairings

If you want Halloween without the smoke and spice, this is the softer, sweeter side of the night.

Pairs beautifully with Dead Man's Party for the same evening with the fire lit, or Cemetery if you would rather push the cold ground forward than the candy.
