The hypnotic pull of self-guided quarantine. Frothed milk slowly warming, spiked with spice and herbs. Horla fragrance notes: Aldehydes, bergamot, almond, milk, viburnum, West Indies bay leaf, Indonesian nutmeg, ylang ylang, ho wood, vetiver, coffee, civet, styrax, coumarin, sandalwood, patchouli. Historical note: Horla is named for the Guy du Maupassant short story The Horla. The word horla is likely a portmanteau by du Maupassant combining hors: the outside and là: there. The perfume was created during the pandemic and reflects a similar set of circumstances, in this case, a boat held in quarantine at a port in France and the sense of existential fear it begins to represent for the writer. Horla, the perfume, became a depiction of the ship and the places it visited across the world before it docked at the foggy dock in du Maupassant’s story. Eau de parfum, 50 ml.
