About the house

Written by the library. The maker has no about page we could quote; corrections are welcome.

DI SER is a Japanese perfume brand based in Sapporo, Hokkaido, operated by Essentia Co., Ltd. The company traces its perfume-making back to 1999, when pharmacist and perfumer Yasuyuki Shinohara began creating fragrances sold locally in Sapporo; the "DI SER" name was adopted for wider distribution in 2011.

The house's perfumes are made using only three types of ingredients: natural aromatic materials, plant-based ethanol, and water. Shinohara's work draws on kōdō, the Japanese tradition of incense appreciation, treating fragrance as something to be "listened to" as much as smelled.

Essentia's operations combine pharmaceutical and cosmetics manufacturing with plant research and an agricultural division that cultivates botanical materials used in the fragrances, reflecting an approach that links scientific research on plant components with hands-on farming in Hokkaido.
