Satsuma Plum

Natural perfume.

July 2026 edition.

An aromatic portrait of one of Japan's celebrated blood-fleshed plums, grown in the Wild Veil perfume orchard. The fruit is harvested at full ripeness, briefly fermented to capture its luminous ester-rich bloom, then transformed into tincture and absolute before joining Hinoki wood, Hiba cedar, Japanese rose enfleurage, and Shimoyama First Flush Sencha.

The result is neither a fruit perfume nor a forest perfume, but the meeting of both: crimson plum suspended among evergreen temples and trembling green tea, where glowing fruit slowly dissolves into cool woods and violet-tinged petals.

alchemy

The incomparable blood plum from Japan paired with the luminous freshness of Shimoyama's first-flush sencha. Crimson fruit glows beneath the deep shade of Hinoki and Hiba forests while Japanese rose lends dusky floral facets that echo the color of the flesh itself. Each material speaks quietly, allowing the transformation of the plum to remain at the center.

Photos: Satsuma plum ferments, Japanese rose (Rosa rugosa) in the Wild Veil Perfume gardens, and in house enfleurage of the same; solid perfume in 5ml and 10ml black violet glass jars; liquid perfume in 5ml and 10ml black violet glass roller ball bottles.

Wild Veil natural perfumes are composed by me, Abby, using homemade, wildcrafted and organic aromatics in Vermont. These include my handmade enfleurage, tinctures, enfleurage extraits, absolutes, resinoids and concretes, and floral waxes. I spend as much time growing plants and foraging as I do composing perfumes.

The best way to experience a natural perfume is to apply it to well-moisturized skin, without rubbing in (absorption only shortens the wear time of fragrance) and without scrubbing off. Natural perfumes are dynamic and take a minimum of 2 hours to reach their final stage, or dry down. Enjoy the alchemical changes as they unfold from the initial intensity of top notes, to the warmth of the heart, to the depth of lower base notes.
