For those who have been following us - I’m sure you’ve noticed I’ve never gotten into the SQ oils.

Other's may ask, "Who/what was SQ?"

SQ is Sultan Qaboos - the former Sultan of Oman who passed back in 2020. He was an avid fragrance lover, collected tons and tons of agarwood, produced quite a few oils that were used as dignitary gifts and shared with family, and is generally accepted as the guy that launched Henry Jacques career. He was also a generous patron of the arts and was generally very well-respected internationally. He helped to turn Oman into the nation it is today.

When he passed away a few years back - the market started to flood with "SQ" woods and oils. This he had been collecting and producing from 1970 when he took the throne, till his passing in 2020. Stuff I largely steered clear of, for a number of reasons.

Vintage oils I’m all over - but the SQ stuff I’ve largely avoided. Lots of fakes out there. Not to mention, it’s too common for me. Everyone seems to have it. My specialty is anything not easily found elsewhere. And because everyone and their brother has it … I’ve avoided anything SQ.

Until Now.

Just kidding. Not really.

I’ve had quite a few folks ask if I were ever going to carry any, or if I would ever make some SQ’themed oil, and I’ve been wracking my brain trying to think of a good angle to take.

And then the train hit me.

SQ = Sultan Qaboos

It’s been right under my nose (no pun intended) the entire time.
