Jungle: Saipung Forest Preserve, SouthWest Cachar Hills, Assam - India

Class: Wild - Chips and Shavings from a single, ancient tree - Approximately 185 years old

Distillation: A very clean Traditional, Wood-fired Stainless Deg and Bapkah - Collection of First 12 Days - July, 2023

Odor Profile: Gourmand, Tobacco, Dense Chewy Nougat and Caramel

I'm really excited to introduce this Cachar Hills oil we produced back in July of 2023. I've sampled this out to quite a few people since it was produced, but for whatever reason, hadn't gotten it up in the shop just yet. I'm feeling like now's the time...

Although I've offered many oils from this particular area of Lower Assam - Haflong, and North Cachar Hills, for example - i

t's been 10 years since I offered an oil from the North end of the Cachar Hills area. My original Hindi Kachari from 2015 sold out ages ago. I had wanted for so long to be able to make another oil from this area. And although the 2015 and this 2023 batch are two distinctly different odor profiles - I think you're really going to like this.

ABOUT

The Kachari Kingdom (known as the Dimasa Kingdom in medieval times) was a powerful kingdom in medieval Assam, India.

This custom-distilled WILD oil comes from a roughly 185 year old tree harvested at the beginning of 2023. Distilled in the traditional, yet very clean, Hindi manner, without the Blue Cheese...

This isn't a tree I took down, but I was able to get the absolute best shavings and broken pieces from the harvest, from which we made a small batch of oil. It's had nearly 2 years of aging at the time of release, now, and it only keeps getting better and better.

SCENT

I'm not talking about the moldy, rotten cheese smell so common with low grade Hindi-type distillations - I'm talking about the powerful, tastefully distilled Hindi distillations that pair beautifully with florals, or are gorgeous worn on their own. If you like THAT kind of Hindi - then Hindi Kachari is your Mecca!

If you like Gourmand, Tobacco'y Ouds... This oil has a delightful opening note of warm, Chewy Nougat and Rich Caramel. I want to lick this oil off my hand!

I get a lot of inquiries about Oud oils with a Tobacco odor profile, and this is usually one of the oils I'll put under their noses, along with Saipung Forest Preserve.

The oil has a warm, Caramel / Ambery undertone with maybe just a hint of leather, all wrapped up in a nice Pipe Tobacco Wrapper that makes me want to apply a swipe and go sit out on the back porch and enjoy the view of the humid Georgia Jungle I live in.

I actually have some artisan Argentinian Dulce de Leche that I order and ship up every so often that this oil reminds me of. It's sweet, but gently so. No toothaches. Not really a vanillic scent - but its that gentle caramelized milky sweetness, gourmand'y sweet pipe tobacco vibe that makes me want to open a pouch and take a few deep inhales. Makes me wish I could smoke it. Or lick it off a spoon. haha

This is a real easy wear for an Indian oil. I've been wearing this in the Georgia heat and humidity of May and June, and going back and forth between the brutal heat outside and the air conditioned inside makes for a lot of fun, deep inhales. So don't be afraid of a warm weather Hindi... as good as they are to wear in Winter, the Summer Heat brings out an entirely different dimension to enjoy!

If you love Hindis - Saipung Forest Preserve 2023 should be prominently sitting on your shelf!
