Étude No. 01: Patchouli

Patchouli usually announces itself before you can place it — camphor first, then raw earth. This Étude asks what's left once that's gone. Patchouli Fractional B, a Robertet fraction, softens the camphoraceous top and raw earth without erasing them, leaving dry wood, a thread of fruit, and a sweetness that wasn't there in the raw oil — not the patchouli you already know, and not an isolated molecule either, because it's carried the whole way through la Un.e, the constant eau de parfum every Étude is written against. What you're wearing is always a finished perfume, never a fragment.
