SourcePhantom Blood is a high-concentration amber perfume built to be worn sparingly. One spray is enough. It opens big and immediately fills the space around you.
The first impression is a thick amber–labdanum surge: warm, leathery, and resinous. Labdanum supplies that familiar amber body – dark, sticky, faintly smoky – while Tibetan musk cuts in with a sharp animalic edge that softens into a creamy warmth on skin. Threaded through the center is Ta’ifi rose, dense and syrupy rather than airy, folded directly into the resin. In the opening moments, the rose–resin–musk combination can read as red peppermint candy – sweet, crackly, and sharp – before it turns darker and more serious.
As the fragrance settles, the sweetness shifts from candy-like to vanilla-pod richness. The amber loses its sparkle and becomes heavier, more solid – like resin that has cooled and hardened –while the animalic bite calms into a warm musk. From the background, a darker layer begins to emerge, adding depth and tension without overwhelming the amber core.
That depth comes from Chiem Po Chai, one of the highest-caliber Cambodian ouds ever distilled, used here in serious quantity – three full grams in this edition. Alongside Ko Kon, Chiem Po Chai sits at the absolute peak of what Cambodian oud can be. It was distilled after months of preparation and logistical effort, from sourcing and preparing the raw material to personally transporting the specially ground dust to our distillery in Taiwan, followed by a long, demanding distillation process that only wood of exceptional quality can withstand.
Chiem Po Chai is not a nostalgic recreation of classic Cambodi. It goes somewhere else entirely. The profile is incense-heavy and medicinal, with an unexpected ripened fruit undertone that recalls the red, ripe character of 1960s–70s ouds. There’s a Vietnamese sinensis-like medicinal clarity wrapped in a depth and fruitiness rarely, if ever, found in Cambodian oud. Even seasoned Cambodi connoisseurs are often caught off guard by how unfamiliar it smells.
This oud isn’t here to announce itself loudly. It sits behind the amber and rose, adding shadow, gravity, and a sense of age – changing how the entire composition reads as it unfolds. By the late drydown, Phantom Blood grips to skin and stays put: amber, labdanum leather, musky warmth, and a steady oud presence, holding its shape for hours rather than fading into generic sweetness.
Phantom Blood was created to do one thing: take a serious amber accord and push it further – bigger, dirtier, and more animal – using rose and an extraordinary Cambodian oud not to soften the composition, but to give it depth, and resinous staying power.
For lovers of oud – especially Cambodian oud – this is peak Cambodi, integrated into an amber composition created to go beyond.
