Sumuw

SUMUW – Derived from the Arabic meaning stature or elevation; it may be used to refer to royalty.

Having acquired their art from the Indian masters of Assam and Kannauj, the Cambodian distillers brought their skills back to Cambodia to apply to Cambodi Oud Wood resulting in an explosion of olfactory sensations – an enchanting dance between the Cambodi woods’ characteristics of fruitiness and the renowned Hindi distillations’ brute; a mystical blend of fruit, cinnamon and vanilla pods mingling with a thrumming resinous Oudiness.

What is interesting is that though the character of the Cambodi Oud wood is of a sweeter variety compared to Hindi wood, much of the methods applied by Cambodi distillers apply are very much Hindi. What we have achieved in SUMUW is bringing forth an amazing fusion of two regions of the Oud world- both their Oud tradition and culture.

SUMUW is breathtaking in that it contains so many finely faceted dimensions.

Many Cambodian oils smell tutti fruitti which completely overtakes the experience, but not with SUMUW. SUMUW’S fruits are luxurious and vintage with the perfect touch of ripeness and green nectar, transforming sweet jam to tangy plum and cherry cocktails. Add a zingy, liquorice woody twist blending into fruity notes giving a tantalizing draw, a sinewy energy coveting hints of dampness. Earthy, moist, golden tobacco with resinous Oudiness contributing to the Oils depth and opacity.

Thick, succulent richness is tempered by the bitterness of dark cherries, Cuban cigars and the spicy dryness of cassia, the balsamic sweetness of popular buds, and a cooling eucalyptus trill. These unexpected elements add flair and depth to the usual Cambodian profile. Considering the lavish amplitude of the flamboyant opening, the dry down is stellar but gentle, a perfumer’s pillow of soft woods, touches of green leaves, dried herbs and dare I say a caress of white flowers.
